I just got this book.

I loved all of my philosophy classes in college and wanted

to re-visit the world of Kant, Socrates and Dr.Seuss.

It is not a light easy read.... but well worth the mental challenge.

Growing up

Both of my boys are growing up soooo fast.

They were just little guys a minute ago.......

and look at them now!

Along with growing up , they are learning about how

life has other plans for us.

My youngest had to deal with a major disappointment in his life.

It is so hard to see their little hearts get broken.

I hate it , yet at the same time , I know it will make them strong.

My job is not to prevent it from getting broken,

just to make sure I gather the pieces and help

them put it back together.

I plan to get a rather large jar of super strong glue....

I know I will need it in the coming years,

for theirs and mine!

Actually, I have been back for awhile..... however the craziness is

starting to settle down.

The kids are back in school, and I am back in school.

The routine of packing lunches, getting to school before the bell rings,

remembering to put on clean socks ( my boys! )

it is all coming back to us.

Although I hate to say good bye to summer.

We are entering my favorite season.

It has the smell of a new start.

I have lots of fun ideas ahead

so stayed tuned.

Decoupage is one of those words that has the stigma

of craftiness attached to it.

I have nothing against crafty.... but I think it gets a bad rap

in most of the world.

I am a glue and paper gal and I love pattern.

So I died when I found these on line.

Decoupage.... a simple word with anything

but simple results!!

Get your glue and have at it!

My computer was acting funny and was not letting me

get onto blogger....weird huh?

I think my life exists only if we are watching baseball

these days.

We had a 2 day tournament this weekend .

They did o.k..... it was hot and everyone was tired.

I got a lot of action shots!

Anthropologie crazy......

I love going to the anthropologie website ...... I get so inspired!

Look at this bird...... incredible.

My mind is spinning right now.

Love this pillow.

If I did not tell you before, I studied sculpture in school.
I have this thing for chairs, and in my mind I
have been working on a tree/chair design. Imagine my
surprise to see this. Love it. Now I really want to
get it going. I can see I am really going to have
a busy summer!

Well now that my Birds are finished , my head has filled with new

ideas. If only I had the time ...... baseball is in full swing .

Tonight was a weird May night that was damp and cold. Near the baseball field

someone was having a bonfire. For a moment I was in a time warp , and I was

thinking it was fall.

Not sure why I love seeing a bathtub in the middle of a field.

Butterflies ......

My class went to the Butterfly and Japanese garden.

There were so many beautiful butterflies .

I loved the shape of this tree.

Here is a very bad picture of the big blue painting I have been

working on. My ceilings are pretty high so I wanted something bigger

over the couch .... and I needed a punch of color.

The background is blue with different layers , and the

trees are all collaged from book papers. The green bottom

is also collaged of many papers .

There are little red birds in only one of the trees.

I will get better pics during the day.

The boys and I had some fun coloring eggs.

I love that they are still into these things. There will come a day

very soon when my heart will break and they will no longer get excited

for the little things.

In the midst of my bird craze..... I managed to refurbish this old drum

table. I should have taken a before pic. . Imagine a dull dark brown mucky

finish. I simply painted the bottom a gloss light green. I sanded the top and

put on a coat of shellac for shine. Super easy and I think

it looks great!

( the flowers are actually tissue paper. The boys made me some colorful buds

that I have in the bathroom. )

Half way home.....

So I have about half of my CSA project complete. To those of you who are new , I must

create 25 small works of art for a local art center project. I have been

working since March .

I am feeling a bit better about it. Yesterday I was ready

to start completely over with a new idea.

Crazy talk!!!!

I was having a moment.

Things are better now , and I feel good about what I am doing.

How many of you just love the new show on Sunday night

called " Secrete Millionaire" ???

It makes me just want to do something to help......

Basball season is open....

My son is on a travel baseball team, and we had our first tournament this weekend.

The weather however was far from baseball ready. It was in the 30's and I

was bundled up from head to toe!

The team did great , and after 3 games , 2 days and a wild

pizza party..... we went home.

From now until July my weekends are packed with baseball ,

big league chew and hot dogs.

I am feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment.

I am working very hard on my CSA project,

however.......

as always when the juices get flowing,

I have 1oo million ideas flooding my

brain.

I do not have the time to do all of them

so ,

I am jotting them down.... and when time allows,

I will jump on them.

I have already plotted out time during spring break, and

the kids summer camp.

So sad I have to wait until then.... who knows, maybe I will squeeze

some things in before.

Spring is almost upon us, and I am ready !!

I am lucky enough to be a part of this project.

It is from the local Delaplaine visual arts center. Nine artists are

participating.... we have to make 25 works of art . Those that

have purchased a share will receive 9 works of art.

It really is a great program pairing artist with collector.

Needless to say , I will be busy for the next month or two!!!

On Sunday I woke up and found her there.... looking so stoic.

Like she was welcoming the day with all the truths of the world.

The light was gleaming on her smile.....

I could have waited all day and she would not let me in on her secret.

Sorry it has been sooooo long!

February is a blur! I can not really pinpoint where the madness began and

since it has not ended......

Basketball will be over soon. So we get a 2 week break before

baseball! Finally meals at a decent hour and we can all eat

together .

I have been busy on some projects. They have been larger so

it takes more time and layers and layers.

Most have been just for me, but that is o.k. . I
love the way these portraits turned out.

Here is what I am working on now.... I am not sure what to do

next, which is really weird for me. I usually see them in

my mind completed.

I am feeling like this cow just grazing on the grass as the world

During my Christmas break , I am going to do a

Basketball is in full swing. The lighting in the gym's are not great

It was a Saturday afternoon,

we had just finished a day of morning basketball games

and a birthday party at the batting cages.

I leaned in to hug my son

and

there it was.

The smell of a young boy!!!!

The stinky smell of a young sweaty boy!!!

This can not be!

Time has played a cruel trick on me.

He is only 10!

My husband was quick to remind me that things will start to change.

First the smell..... then the voice..... then everything.

Has it really been over a week?!!!

I can not even believe that Thanksgiving has come and gone.

My favorite holiday.

I have to get in gear , because not only is this the month

of Christmas, but my youngest turns 8 this weekend!

His Birthday always brings the first snow.

I have so much to tell you.

1. I am working on some little collage birds for Christmas

ornament. Below are just a few.... they still need their feet

and hangers , so use your imagination.

2.I made them all from recycled materials! I am also teaching a studio class on

how to make these , in December .

3. I really wanted to get back to my roots ( see the connection !! Ha Ha ! ),

and do more dimensional work. I love these roots !

4. This is a work in progress. I have another big tree piece as well.

Pics on this later.

5.I have an upcoming art event on November 6th. My little city is having their 1st gallery walk , and I am going to have some original pieces and some photography to share.

6. I am also doing a workshop with the woman to woman center. It is a great

mentoring program for young women wanting to make a

positive difference in their life.

Daddy headed off to the Redskins game.... so the boys and I had fun around town. We all set out with our camara for some interesting pics around town.

We finished our day with some Rita's Italian ice and a trip to the used bookstore

..... a perfect time!

It has been tooooo long since my last post. About mid-week I was so exhausted after homework,dinner, practice, laundry..... I went to bed early. This is very unusual

for me. I treasure my night time get away to the computer or my creative zone!

I do have some things to show despite my lack of production.

You can not see the words at the top very well,

"It is woven of memories...living side by side...home."

This one is still a work in progress. I layered square pictures of sky photographs

I took, covered them with thin white tissue, and then put a coat of blue and

white on top.

I have some thoughts swirling around in my head. I am going to break out of both my color palette and my subject matter. I have noticed that my work is very controlled sometimes. Of course being the nature of collage, it is a bit chaotic, however I do not fully let go. Notice the organization of miss matched papers.... the balance of it all.

I am not changing my style , I just need to do something out of my comfort zone to

re-group and get fresh ideas.

I will keep you updated on how all this turns out!

Off to an auction.......

I just finished this piece and sent it off to an auction for a young girl in my area. She is undergoing surgery and the auction will raise money for the expenses.

I have a few canvases and wood prepped and ready to collage. I hope to get my etsy shop back up and running. I have had only select items in there for sometime. It is hard to make art and then be savvy about the marketing of your work. I will make an effort .

I have been wanting to do some more volunteer work for quite sometime. I had an idea that I wanted to start ..... then I got the job at the school. I have been trying to juggle school, my kids , my art and my home .... and I just put the idea aside . A new opportunity has just come my way.... so I am happy to reopen this door. More details once I know myself.

I found this parking ticket on the ground. It was after a heavy rain.... so I thought it was appropriate for my sketchbook " Record year for rainfall".

I have to work ,work , work on my sketchbook this weekend in between baseball games, yard sales,cleaning..... I think if all of the craziness ended, I would actually miss it.

It would give me more time to work on my art, however I find I am creating most of it while I am watching my kids, cleaning ..... doing the everyday things. It is all in my head . Once I have time it is like a flood and I am exhausted when it is done.

I just finished this piece. Recognize the trout??? I did not use my originals..... I copied them and made them smaller. My scanner cut off an inch on the right side so you do not see the third bird or the tail of the large trout.

Well..... first I must apologize for the many typos in my last post. I rushed through and I suppose in my mind it sounded o.k. . I have been thinking a lot lately about where I should be in my work or really where I want to go. Because I am working in the school, there is not as much time to be creative...... when I am it really matters. So, I signed up for this . We will see how it all turns out.

It has just occurred to me that although each of us are so so tiny in the world ..... mere whispers ..... we individually have so much power to change everything. A single action can make a change . Our tiny whisper can transcend to a larger voice. This is not a real deep concept.... it is pretty simple. Be kind .... be good.... try your best.... and believe that your voice will be heard.

We got a new computer and unfortunately I love the software.

I was so happy to receive a sweet little package in the mail. I opened it to find

some lovely little papers that I can not wait to use!

Today was the boys and my first day of school. Would you think with all the pictures I take , I would have taken a photo??? Anyway..... here are some photos of our last weeks of summer.

30 min. away, so I took the boys. I could not believe how close we got.

Wearing their colors they were in awe .

If you do not already know..... I am in love with Trout. Really! My favorite book is Trout of the world. I love all fish..... but I truly love trout.

I found this vintage postcard on etsy and had to get it. I can not wait to see it in person. I love the red truck and the contrasting sky , and look at that huge trout!

I had a great time while at the shore. I always do and seem to cry just a little as we pull away on the trek home. I am still in the midst of unpacking and carrying on with our busy life. I start my official job with the school in the am and the kids are back in full swing next week with school , baseball..... craziness! I want to get some collages started so I can work whenever the opportunity allows. I am bursting at the seams with ideas...... so I should have some things to show you soon. In the meantime, I have some random pictures of our trip.

Gone fishin!

I am off tomorrow for 2 weeks at the shore! I can not wait to dig into my new book "The Help" and relax. I packed a little art bag so if inspiration comes , I can work. I promise a ton of pictures when we return.

** I am happy to say that I even completed all of the kids back to school shopping so I will have no mayhem to return to!!! I can breathe a sigh of relief.

My $5 find.....

I just love my new chair. It was just $5 in in horrible shape. I sprayed it a vibrant blue and I am still not sure about the seat cushion material. This is an easy fix. I plan to go back again and get the partner chair. Maybe a green or yellow color?

Lots to tell.....

I have been busy working on a few projects here and there.

This is a large rectangular collage that I made just for me. I have Navy
walls in my bedroom, and for the last 3 years, I have had nothing above
my bed. We have a bunch of my kids art as well as vintage pictures of boats.
I think this will fit in perfectly.

The first boat is my husband , than me , and the last two are my boys.

I also bought a shutter at my favorite tag sale .... I hung it over my kitchen window as a valance. I will show you pictures once I get fabric for the curtains. I also bought a great wooden chair for $ 5! Really! I have painted it a bright blue and will put a colorful fabric on the seat. I will have pictures of that very soon also.

Here is a few new pieces..... I did not mean to show you the backside of my assemblage 1st.... we just got a new computer and I am not quite as together with my pictures yet!

O.K. , so there are a few..... and I already have a slew ( is that a word?) of ideas in the works. So I will have more pics soon.

On another note..... I finished my book ( Water for Elephants). Loved , loved , loved it. I miss it actually. Oh.... go see" Despicable me". I just thought it was the cutest, sweetest, funny ( in a boy humor kinda way ) movie. I laughed , cried ( yes really ) and felt warm and fuzzy. It has a dark edge to it but it really is great.

The big 4...0!

I did not really think about it until it came and went. It is like I suddenly feel like I

should grow up, have answers, look like I have it together.

I liked my thirties.... young enough to make mistakes and learn. I could still fumble around ,

figure stuff out. I am putting too much pressure on this.

Trust me.... I intend to make a ton of mistakes and hopefully I will learn from them.

Fumbling.... well it could be just part of my personality.... and as for figuring stuff out,

well , maybe that happens in your eighties.

After all , 4 is an even number. I like my even numbers.

I am reading this and actually did not think I would like it....... however I really can not stop. It is a little gritty and has a hardier edge than I normally prefer. I am not quite half way through so I see some changes coming ahead. Hopefully it has an upward turn of events.....the elephant has just been introduced. Shhhh.... do not give anything away.

Mine is in the bottom right hand corner. I did this piece about 3 yrs ago and it was in the Sommerset Studio mag. in July 2007. I did not realize that this was going to be in the summer Handcrafted edition 2010, so I was quite surprised to receive my copy of the magazine.

We went to Philadelphia for a long weekend. We were there for a family reunion, however we squeezed in some sight seeing.

What a crazy mascot!

The next few pictures are from a stop in Anthropologie in downtown Philly. I was in more awe of the building than what was inside I must say.

I am not sure what the story is on this tree. It is an actual needlepoint sleeve around the tree. There was also one around a bike rack???? It was interesting.

My goal is to have the boys be good swimmers this summer..... this means a lot of pool time. My oldest one is on his way. However my youngest.... well, he still does not like getting the top of his head wet. Lessons start next week, I will keep you updated on the progress.

We went to see Toy Story 3 yesterday. It was just as good as the two before, and definitely pulled at your heart strings . My youngest son is very sensitive and has always had a hard time leaving me . He cried at the end of the movie , and cried really all night. He said it was because Andy had to say goodbye to his toys...... but he hugged me tight and said never leave me. It makes your heart ache ..... you really want your kids to always need you but really it is because we as parents really need them. It is hard to let them go , it is hard to let them make mistakes and learn from them. You want to be there to wipe there tears and hug them until they smile.

My little guy will take a bit longer to grow his wings and I assured him that there are many colleges close to home that he may attend. He smiled and so did I.

I went to my favorite one weekend a month spot...... the wonderful Chartreuse and co. tag sale.
I always walk away inspired and ready to create .

I love this little room area ..... and if you did not know already, Maryland is known for the crabs.

I bought this little drawer. It holds my napkins and salt shaker for the table.

My husband said I could not buy anymore numbers or letters, however I snuck a #2 in amongst these pictures. I can not help myself.
