Summer dreams......

This is my latest collage. I will have this headed to "The Muse " as well. I think I will do a print order soon ...... I will update my etsy shop with the prints and hopefully some new work????

This is modeled after a picture of my boys and their 2nd cousin in Maine. I used pictures of the sky for the ocean ( see it ). I love the colors.

I am also working on a Flickr account so that all of my work can be viewed. Stay tuned.

A window , a chair and some rain.......

Well , I cleaned up the window and added some of my favorite papers. I have not the patience or the time to quilt , so this is the quick and easy version.

I put it on the top of my barn wood jelly cabinet. I love the pop of color.

The Art House Gallery in Atlanta is a really neat art co-op that has these on going art projects. I wanted to be apart of one , so I decided on the 10,000 word project. You simply submit information and your $5 fee..... and they send you a word that you must interpret. I was intrigued. I needed some stimulation and thought how perfect. I could not wait to receive my mystery word. Could it be something I would have to dig really deep for..... hmmmm.
My letter finally arrived and guess what I got????

That's right..... it says "Chair". If you know my art...... you have seen a chair or two.

Here is a new piece " A new beginning". I think this will be headed out to Whitney
at " The Muse".

I told you that I was teaching a workshop thru the community action agency. This was a great group of gals that are well deserving of their "Dream house ". I wish them the best and offer hope for a bright future. Look how great these turned out!

Here are two new collages headed down to The Humidity Gallery in Florida.

I am busy working on some new things to show you soon!

Now I have one !!!!!!

Well I had a great day for treasures!!! I went to a wonderful Store/Tag sale that has been right under my nose forever and I never realized. I picked up this great window ( $6) . I am not sure what I will do with it just yet, but I love it.

Would you look at these beauties!! I just love them...... and I know just what I will do with them!
The price was even better ( $3).

The best for last..... I have my very own cage doll!!! I received an early B-day present from my in-laws . Thanks to my wonderful friends for giving just the right information. I could hardly believe it . My boys decided she needed to hold the nest, and my husband placed the bird on the bottom. They call her mother nature.

More new work coming soon!

I gotta have one.....

I love these antique Santos cage dolls. I came across one ( really 2 , one had wings ) on my trip to Lucketts, VA. I just love them, and I can not really explain why. I love the simple look on their face and the haunting cage skirt. I am not really a girlie girl , but my how I adore these dolls. I could not bare to spend the asking $ 150, and they are pretty big. If I could just find a small one ....... for now I have the pictures.

Summer Fun......

I just finished this collage and it is headed for my shop later today. I wanted to highlight all my vintage papers without covering it to much.
I have a few projects in the works for the summer. I am working on a large piece for my house which I will take my time with. I am doing some collage sewing things and I have just been recharged with inspiration from medical dictionaries and such. I love medical illustrations and I am thinking of doing some abstract collages mapping the nervous system....... hmmm.
Between teaching summer camps, my kids summer activities, vacations , birthdays...... the summer is packed ( I am already exhausted! ).

Lots of stuff to talk about........

Well, I always assume that everyone knows exactly how I do what I do and that is why I think what I do is not so special. So I will let you know about a few little tidbits about my method.

I love working on wood because it is a nice smooth service and really takes the abuse of my collages..... that said , it makes the pieces heavier and more costly to ship. A lot of my work has a collection of paper in it...... I like organized chaos. I like to have the craziness of many mismatched papers in the nice neat frame of a subject ( does that make sense?). I love to tint the papers with paint and oil pastels are a must ( love love love them). I used to use only matte gel medium. It is heavy and really bonds well ( very expensive ). I have recently switched to Modge Podge and ....... I really love it. I seal all my work with a Satin Varnish ( 2-3 coats ). I like to use real brushes to glue things down , not the foam brushes . I frame most of my pieces with vintage paper, maps or my favorite ...... telephone pages. I love collage because you really can never make a mistake , it is unpredictable and I am always pleasantly surprised by the outcome....... and if you do not like it , you can glue right over it!

Below are some new little bird Oval collages. I am going to take better pics tomorrow and have them in my shop by the evening ( finally some attention to my neglected little shop!) . I think they would be really cute hanging from nice ribbon.

Well another busy day tomorrow. I am playing tennis in the a.m. , and watching the kids field day around noon. Hopefully the afternoon will be open for some creative time!

More things to look see.....

Here is my funky couch with a tree. Imagine that! " Pulling us toward our destiny". I like using images of furniture. I think it is my way of incorporating people in my work..... they are portraits.

I love this one . I still have my bits of scrap paper that I always need to have however it is bit reserved....... right? " For all those that hold the vision" .

Here is a quick shot of something coming up. I am using all my neutral toned vintage paper as the background. I am going to leave them as is and then add the color with the imagery over them. More pics on this next week.
I am in the school on Mon, Tues and Wed. so if the kids cooperate in the evening I can get some good creative time in. Operative word COOPERATE !!!!!

Another birdie

Here is a new little birdie. I have a few more new pieces that I will take pics of later to show you. They are all headed down to Tallahassee .

I have just joined an art/mail group. We all must create a postcard (4x6) original piece of art for each participant and send it through the mail. All the markings and handling will become a part of the artwork. How great is that. It is due by September so I have a bit of time to think of what I will do. I love receiving mail so this will be a treat.

a little tease......

The above is a little tease of a new piece I am working on. This is about a little over 1/2 the canvas size. I should be finished by Thursday.

The kids are on the last couple of weeks of school. This week is packed to the brim with events.
Field day, volunteer breakfast, family entertainment..... you name it.

This time of year is always bitter sweet. The beginning of summer and the end of another school year. It is really hard to change the routine , however I am really excited for our summer so hopefully the boys will feel it too!
